The Critic Back in Syndication! The Reelz Channel (a new channel on DirecTV) has emailed in informing us that it will be showing The Critic in syndication starting on March 16th with a MEGA 8 hour straight marathon at 2:00 PM (EST) / 11:00 AM (PST) ! The show will then regularly air on Mondays at 6:30 PM (EST) / 3:30 PM (PST). The Reelz Channel can be found on DirecTV on 238 and on Dish Network on 299. "Baby we're back!". ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Another Jay Sherman Appearance on The Simpsons Jay Sherman made a small cameo appearance in this seasons' Simpsons episode entitled "The Ziff Who Came to Dinner". The episode guest starred Jon Lovitz as his reoccurring Artie Ziff character on the series. During the episode, Homer takes Artie to Moe's Bar where he is instantly greeted by a bar full of previously voiced Jon Lovitz Simpsons characters. One of them is the lovable film critic Jay Sherman. A New Design and We're Feelin' Fine News has been a bit slow recently as it usually is for a show that has been off the air for 10 years. During a long and complicated period of time I decided to complety redo the entire site design. It took an enormous amount of labor to do this so I hope everyone enjoys it. With this change you will notice all of the sections have been redone and many contain more content than ever before. On the contrary to popular demand I still have yet to add more episode capsules to the Television Episodes Guide. These take the longest for me to complete so I am getting them done rather slowly. Rest assured that more will be uploaded in time. For now, please email me any comments or error reports about the new design and enjoy ! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Critic Discussed on TRIO TV All last month, Trio TV aired a special they put together entitled "Brilliant But Cancelled: The Pilot Season". The program discussed in small segments different TV shows that have been cancelled over the years. One of the segments was about The Critic and featured comments from series creators Al Jean and Mike Reiss along with some behind the scenes clips of Jon Lovitz lending his voice as Jay Sherman. I had planned on capturing the segment and posting it on the site for everyone to view but it turns out that Trio TV aired two similar programs using the name "Brilliant But Cancelled" listed on their schedule. After numerous failed attempts, I was unable to capture it. If anyone has a copy of the show and would be kind enough to let us in on it please contact me. The segment was terrific and should be seen by everyone. In other news, many will be happy to know that the Television Episode Capsules are progressing nicely and three more have been posted. The new capsuls are for Episodes: 3, 4, 5. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ New Episode Guide Section A new Episode Guides section has been uploaded to the site. We have added subsections covering even more of The Critic. The subsections include: Television Episodes, Webisodes, and Critic Appearances on The Simpsons. The Television Episodes subsection is equipped with a picture from each episode to help fans recognize them as requested. And if that isn't enough, we are still progressing on the individual episode capsules. New capsules are now up for Episodes: 2, 10, 12. These are taking longer than I had anticipated so many episodes have yet to be created. Rest assured that I have not forgotten and will slowly be doing them all. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ A Capsule A Day Keeps the Doctor Away Good News. I have been busy the past couple of weeks working on some terrific content to add to the site. Hopefully, sometime next month I will be able to launch a new version of the Episode Guides section with links to individual episode capsules ! These capsules have just about every bit of information you can possibly want for each episode. I have been working on a capsule a day so this will take a while before all of them are completed. For a sneak peek of some of the first completed capsules you can click here and here. I would love to hear some feedback on them be it good or bad. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Sony DVD Poll Results Are In... Still Hope Well, the first results of SONY's DVD poll which we mentioned two months ago are now in. Tvshowsondvd.com has reported the following news. "Thanks for participating in the TV poll. Based on the overall selections, we have now planned to put out a number of the titles chosen. Please look for The Tick, Soap, Newsradio, Dilbert and more to be released on DVD later this year. Thank you again for your selections, your opinions matter!" All I can say is... IT STINKS ! How did those shows beat out The Critic ? The fate of us ever seeing The Critic on DVD rests in the brief words mentioned above... "more to be released on dvd later this year". Hope for the best ! In other news... Comedy Central will be airing repeats of The Critic on Monday mornings at 1:30 AM Eastern time during the entire month of May. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Critic DVD ? Vote in Sony's Official Poll ! It's been 11 months since we put up our DVD petition for The Critic and now SONY has responded ! Sony Pictures is now having a poll to vote for the top 5 shows they own which you would like to see on DVD, and you guessed it... The Critic is on the list !!! CLICK HERE to vote now for The Critic DVD !!! (Please remember that you have to vote for 5 shows not just 1. Also, please choose "full season release" for question 2). This is a huge step in the right direction for us fans pushing to have this DVD set made. Special thanks goes out to Oliver Hansen for sending in the great news ! In other news, last month I said that their was a chance of a "type" of DVD set for The Critic. This was a small project I was working on. Since the recent news of this poll the project has been scrapped to put effort into promoting the poll. Hopefully a real DVD set will finally be released. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ It is Coming... I Have Not Forgotten ! I must apologize to everyone who has been viewing and sending in email about the lack of updates. I have been rather busy with college and a couple other websites. Skipping a month is tough for any viewers to take and once again I apologize...BUT rest assured that I have some news about a type of Critic DVD coming up next month (well sort of...i will explain the details in time). Stick around and you will see what I am talking about. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mike Reiss Talks About the Show : ( Loyal viewer, Danny Guterman, recently attended a presentation at UC Davis where Mike Reiss (co-producer of The Critic) spoke on November 22. He mentioned some things about the show... although it was very bad news for us fans. According to Danny, Reiss mentioned that the show itself is dead including the webisodes that were created last year. The company that was producing them went bankrupt and no more will be made. He also said that there are NO plans to release The Critic on DVD. This really hurts for us since Al Jean earlier this year said there was talk about a possible DVD set. Let's hope things are still positive for this to be made. As for now, I will try to contact Al Jean and see if the DVD idea has any meaning. Stay Tuned... Mike Reiss had one last small bit of info about the show during the presentation. He said that The Critic was originally written to be a show about Krusty the Clown and his life in New York, but Matt Groening turned the idea down. Instead they re-wrote it with Jay Sherman. (Could you picture Krusty replacing Jay ? I sure can't.) Special Thanks once again to Danny Guterman who was kind enough to email us all this news. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Repeats on Comedy Central Return I bet you thought I would never update right ? Well, here I am with some great news ! Comedy Central will be airing repeats of The Critic starting November 4th on Monday 1:00 - 2:00 am and Tuesday - Thursday at 3:00am (eastern). They have even re-done their Critic section on the site. It's not much, but at least it will bring some attention back to the show. Get those VCR's ready ! I hope this can spark more interest for a DVD. I have yet to hear from Al Jean on any Critic news in the past couple of months. (hence the lack of updates.) Rest assured that as soon as something comes up, I will post it here first. As for site updates, I hope to add more content in the upcoming weeks to the site. Thanks to Joey Goodknight for emailing us with the info on the repeats. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Talk of The Critic on DVD !!! It has been 2 months since the last update and I apologize to everyone who has emailed me. It has been rough trying to get my Critic on VCD project going when this month I contacted Al Jean and he has told me "There is talk about either selling Critic cels or releasing a DVD." With these words, I have scrapped the whole idea of trying to put the episodes on VCD. I urge everyone to SIGN THE DVD PETITION !!! We might have a fighting chance to get this thing made !!! And on top of it all, they might release cels of the show for sale !!! Myself, being a huge cel collector am going crazy for more info on this to share with everyone. Hopefully, I can update again with more news. In the meantime, 3 new pics have been added to the Pictures section. Enjoy. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ No More Episodes on TV Sorry about not updating last month. As you probably noticed, I have been fooling around with the site's design and finally have all the sections up and running. Plus, I added 2 new sections: Support and FAQ. And now on to the real news.... A terrible thing has happened !!! Comedy Central has STOPPED showing repeats of The Critic on late nights. It looks like the show will never be aired on TV again. This now makes our DVD Petition extremely important if we want to see the show again. Until we get more signatures I have decided to start capturing and making VCD's along with SVCD's of the show from my taped copies. I have all of the episodes but they are not very good quality. If anybody has any full episodes on tape please EMAIL ME ! This will be a great way to preserve the show on digital media that will never wear out like a tape would. If the DVD's never come to pass then at least these will be available. I have to buy a few new tools for my PC before I start capturing. I will update next month with more on the process. All I can say about Comedy Central taking the show out of their schedule is......."IT STINKS !!!".....Stay Tuned. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Newest Critic Info Hi Everybody. Sorry about the month of downtime. It has been a very busy schedule with school. Anyway, I have a bunch of news and updates for the site. First off, I was able to get in touch with Al Jean (executive producer of The Critic) ! It looks like there is not a lot of talk going on about the show coming back on the air any time soon. He did tell me that he likes our petition to have the show put on dvd. He was even nice enough to tell me where to send it once we have more signatures. So please SIGN THE PETITION !!! As for updates, I have added some grab pics of Jay that I created for the Pictures Section. Be sure to check them out. Hopefully, I will be adding plenty more for different characters. Also, the broken link to download the theme song is now back up ! Thanks to everyone who sent in email about it. Atom Films has yet to add any new Critic webisodes as of December. I hope that they don't stop at number 10? If anybody has any info on this please email us. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ We've Landed on the Web After the long grueling design process we have finally hit the world wide web. Let me start off by saying that this site, unlike several other failed attempts, will be updated and always informative for the breed of dying fans to one of the most underated animated sitcoms of all time, "The Critic". As many of you already know, "The Critic" was only on for 2 seasons after being cancelled. BUT the comeback has started ! Atomfilms.com along with shockwave.com have signed a deal to host NEW episodes of "The Critic" made exclusively for the internet ! Also, if you haven't noticed the icon on on top of the news. Click Here to sign the petition for Gracie Films to put all the episodes of "The Critic in a DVD box set format. Special thanks to Justin Caggiano for helping write the petiton A Toupee Production ™ |
